The comparison, showing substantial differences as well as striking similarities, contributes to a deeper understanding of both cultures. Part I looks at Kamoro society and culture through the window of its ritual cycle, framed by gender. Part II widens the view, offering in a comparative fashion a more detailed analysis of the socio- political and cosmo-mythological setting of the Kamoro and the Asmat rituals. Next is a systematic comparison of the rituals. The comparison includes a cross-cultural, structural analysis of relevant myths. This publication is of interest to scholars and students in Oceanic studies and those drawn to the comparative study of cultures. Jan Pouwer (1924) started his career as a government anthropologist in West New Guinea in the 1950s and 1960s, with periods of intensive fieldwork, in particular among the Kamoro. A distinguished anthropologist, he held professorships at universities around the world. 546 English. 588 0 Print version record. 650 0 Mimika (Indonesian people) 650 0 Asmat (Indonesian people) 650 0 Sex role|zIndonesia|zPapua Barat. 650 0 Ritual|zIndonesia|zPapua Barat. 650 0 Ethnology|zIndonesia|zPapua Barat. 650 7 Society and social sciences.|2bicssc 650 7 Politics and government.|2bicssc 650 7 HISTORY|zMiddle East|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 650 7 Asmat (Indonesian people)|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00818739 650 7 Ethnology.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00916106 650 7 Manners and customs.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01007815 650 7 Mimika (Indonesian people)|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01021938 650 7 Ritual.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01098241 650 7 Sex role.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01114598 650 7 Social conditions.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01919811 650 7 Ritual.|0(DE-588)4050164-4|2gnd 650 7 Kosmologie.|0(DE-588)4114294-9|2gnd 650 7 Geschlechterforschung.|0(DE-588)4482930-9|2gnd 650 7 Gesellschaft.|0(DE-588)4020588-5|2gnd 650 7 Kamoro.|0(DE-588)4797356-0|2gnd 650 7 Asmat.|0(DE-588)4394284-2|2gnd 650 07 Ritual.|2swd 650 07 Sozialstruktur.|2swd 651 0 Papua Barat (Indonesia)|xSocial conditions. 651 0 Papua Barat (Indonesia)|xSocial life and customs. 650 17 Sekseverschillen.|2gtt 650 17 Riten.|2gtt 650 17 Sociale verandering.|2gtt 650 17 Asmat.|0(NL-LeOCL)078439027|2gtt 650 17 Kamoro (volk)|0(NL-LeOCL)255148844|2gtt 650 17 Kamoro (taal)|0(NL-LeOCL)16625827X|2gtt 651 7 Indonesia|zPapua Barat.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01878830 651 7 Papua (Indonesiƫ)|0(NL-LeOCL)078549736|2gtt 651 7 Provinz Papua.|0(DE-588)4027658-2|2gnd 651 7 Papua (Provinz)|2swd 651 7 Kamoro (Volk)|2swd 651 7 Asmat.|2swd 653 0 Oceanic studies 653 0 Indonesia 653 0 Papua culture 653 0 gender studies 653 0 anthropology 776 08 |iPrint version:|aPouwer, Jan.|tGender, ritual and social formation in West Papua.|dLeiden : KITLV Press, 2010 |z9789067183253|w(DLC) 2012364128|w(OCoLC)526084116 830 0 Verhandelingen van het Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde ;|v258. 914 ocn808384659 994 92|bCKE
