| Summary |
This volume examines developments from the field of sleep study and outlines methods for the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. It provides a review of the biological rhythms and stages of sleep and outlines the various categories of sleep disorders. It provides methods to chart clients' sleep patterns and behavioral approaches that may help relieve such problems as insomnia. It also describes specific sleep disorders associated with childhood, the aging process, and pregnancy. In addition, the medical contexts of sleep disorders for both cardiopulmonary and noncardiopulmonary diseases are discussed. The volume provides descriptions of the diagnostic tools and treatments available at the growing number of sleep laboratories and the various treatments that sleep specialists provide.
