This report summarizes the results of a study designed to describe the magnitude of military caregiving in the United States today, as well as to identify gaps in the array of programs, policies, and initiatives designed to support military caregivers. 520 "While much has been written about the role of caregiving for the elderly and chronically ill and for children with special needs, little is known about "military caregivers" --The population of those who care for wounded, ill, and injured military personnel and veterans. These caregivers play an essential role in caring for injured or wounded service members and veterans. This enables those for whom they are caring to live better quality lives, and can result in faster and improved rehabilitation and recovery. Yet playing this role can impose a substantial physical, emotional, and financial toll on caregivers. This report summarizes the results of a study designed to describe the magnitude of military caregiving in the United States today, as well as to identify gaps in the array of programs, policies, and initiatives designed to support military caregivers. Improving military caregivers' well- being and ensuring their continued ability to provide care will require multifaceted approaches to reducing the current burdens caregiving may impose, and bolstering their ability to serve as caregivers more effectively. Given the systematic differences among military caregiver groups, it is also important that tailored approaches meet the unique needs and characteristics of post-9/11 caregivers."--Abstract. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (RAND, viewed November 5, 2014). 650 0 Medicine, Military|zUnited States. 650 0 Military nursing|zUnited States. 650 0 Military social work|zUnited States. 650 0 Psychology, Military. 650 0 Veterans|xMedical care|zUnited States. 650 0 Veterans|xMental health services|zUnited States. 650 0 Veterans|xHealth and hygiene|zUnited States. 650 0 Veterans|xCare|zUnited States|xPsychological aspects. 650 0 Caregivers|xServices for|zUnited States. 650 4 Military doctors|zUnited States|xServices for. 650 4 Military nurses|zUnited States|xServices for. 650 4 Military personnal|zUnited States|xHealth and hygiene. 650 4 Military personnal|zUnited States|xMedical care. 650 4 Military personnal|zUnited States|xMental health services. 650 4 Military social workers|zUnited States|xServices for. 650 7 HISTORY|zUnited States|xState & Local|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 650 7 HEALTH & FITNESS|xWork-Related Health.|2bisacsh 650 7 Caregivers.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00847331 650 7 Families of military personnel|xServices for.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01765693 650 7 Mental health.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01016339 650 7 Soldiers|xFamily relationships.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01125266 650 12 Caregivers|xstatistics & numerical data. 650 12 Veterans|xstatistics & numerical data. 651 2 United States. 650 22 Disabled Persons|xrehabilitation. 650 22 Needs Assessment|xstatistics & numerical data. 650 22 Social Support. 650 22 Socioeconomic Factors. 651 7 United States.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01204155 655 2 Statistics. 655 4 Electronic books. 700 1 Tanielian, Terri L.,|eauthor. 700 1 Fisher, Michael P.,|eauthor. 700 1 Vaughan, Christine Anne,|eauthor. 700 1 Trail, Thomas,|d1967-|eauthor. 700 1 Epley, Caroline,|eauthor. 700 1 Voorhies, Phoenix,|eauthor. 700 1 Robbins, Michael William,|eauthor. 700 1 Robinson, Eric,|eauthor. 700 1 Ghosh-Dastidar, Bonnie,|eauthor. 710 2 Rand Corporation,|eissuing body. 776 08 |iPrint version:|aRamchand, Rajeev.|tHidden Heroes : America's Military Caregivers.|dSanta Monica : RAND Corporation, ©2014|z9780833085580 830 0 Research report (Rand Corporation) ;|vRR-499-TEDF. 914 ocn876512896 994 93|bGTK
