Note Why would an American President pardon a turkey? How did the turkey become the symbol of Thankgsgiving? Such are the questions that perplex a young student, who wonders how these traditions got started. In his quest for answers, he discovers that the historical truth of the first Thanksgiving isn't quite as expected.
The author and illustrator give a special thanks to their supporters: Senator John Warner, Congressman J. Randy Forbes, Congresswoman Thelma Drake, Smithfield Foods, Virginia Zoo, Fairfax County Park Authority/Kidwell Farm, Federation of Virginia Food Banks, The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Thanksgiving facts are recounted on page 25.
