Summary |
One of Mathew Brady’s most significant achievements is his work photographing the events of the American Civil War. Together with his team of assistants, Brady was responsible for dozens of images of the war. The photographs from Brady and his company did what other media sources in print journalism could not—they lent a new and graphic reality to the events of war. With these photos, Americans saw the harsh realities of war, from mass graves to the destruction experienced by once prosperous towns to President Lincoln in action on the battlefield.ℓThese haunting images greatly impacted Americansℓwho saw them and will forever live on in the minds of Americans even today. This impressive book contains a variety of Brady’s photographs that changed American perceptions of the war. Author Francis Trevelyan Miller alsoℓexplains the importance of Brady’s photographs within the historical context in which they were produced.ℓ |
