Summary This fascinating article discusses the history of the barbarian and Chinese interactions in late antiquity. It is thought that the Huns may have come to Eastern Europe by way of the Siberian steppe. As this article explains, the nomads of the steppe were a constant worry to the ancient Chinese, who built towns, cities and walls to keep such warring nomads at bay, sometimes quite unsuccessfully.
