Summary |
The beautifully written pieces embraced and preserved in this volume mostly belong to Hawthorne's earlier period. The sketches of American life had been left in the obscurity of old periodicals and thus quite possibly forgotten by all, including by the author himself. Five or six years immediately following his death, scholars began to be gradually discover and collect them. Thus, this illustrated Riverside edition of "Tales, Sketches, and Other Papers," represents a valuable piece of literary history. |
