| Summary |
In this second painting, Hogarth shows the cracks in the newlywed's relationship. Already the household is in general disarrayℓand an abundance of evidence that they have spent the night separately abounds. A little dog is pulling a lady's cap out of the hungover husband's pocket and the wife's disheveled appearance and open posture allude to her unfaithfulness as well. |
