This portrait, completed about five years before the King's death shows Louis XIV seated with his son, le Grand Dauphin, to his left, while his grandson, Louis, the Duke of Burgundy, is to his right. Louis XIV's great-grandson Louis, Duke of Anjou and Madame de Ventadour, Anjou's governess (who commissioned the painting), are shown to the left of the King. Busts of Henry IV and Louis XIII are shown in the background. |
