Summary Phonological awareness, vol. 1: Kids will demonstrate greater understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes), recognize and produce rhyming words, count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words, and blend and segment onsets and rhymes of single-syllable spoken words. On-screen, multiple-choice reviews at the end of each segment reinforce important concepts and make learning fun.
Phonological awareness, vol. 2: Kids will demonstrate greater understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes), sound out three letter words that follow a pattern, with vowel sounds in the middle, find words that share sounds, and finally, put all of those skills together to make longer words with several different sounds. On-screen, multiple-choice reviews at the end of each segment reinforce important concepts and make learning fun.
Phonics and word recognition: This brand-new, 2016, high-definition program meets all of the Common Core kindergarten standards. Kids will: know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words both in isolation and in text; attain a basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sounds or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant; associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels; identify which letters represent the five major vowels [Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, and Uu]; and know the long and short sound of each vowel.
Analyzing unknown words with common affixes: This program meets Common Core kindergarten reading standards and improves reading comprehension by giving young readers the tools to break apart words to discover their meaning. What are root words, prefixes and suffixes? What are the most common prefixes and suffixes? What are their meanings? The answers to these questions are covered in depth with detailed graphics, diagrams and exciting video.
Print concepts: This program meets Common Core kindergarten standards, as it introduces young children to the basic concepts of print. It teaches new readers directionality, the way to read words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page through any given book. It further fosters phonological awareness, understanding that the spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters.
Sight words 1-25: Common Core Kindergarten Reading is a set of high-quality, nationally-accepted, academic standards in reading. These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do before entering 1st grade. This first in a series of programs covers the beginning 9 weeks of kindergarten, where kids learn 25 sight words, such as "the," "he," "we," etc. Join young host Julianna, who explains what sight words are, and enthusiastically presents each word, sounds it out slowly and uses it in a simple sentence with on-screen graphics and illustrations that reinforce the use of the particular sight word.
Sight words 26-50: This second in a series of programs covers weeks 10 through 18 of kindergarten, where kids build upon the first 25 sight words, already introduced, with 25 more sight words, such as "went," "had," "did," etc. Join young host Julianna, who explains what sight words are, and enthusiastically presents each word, sounds it out slowly and uses it in a simple sentence with on-screen graphics and illustrations that reinforce the use of the particular sight word.
