This tavern, which stood in the path of the British advance on Long Island in 1776, stood until 1880. At the time of the British invasion, the Royal Army reached this tavern and the Jamaica Pass just beyond it unopposed. It wouldn't be until later that the Continental Army would begin their defense. |
