This painting by Italian artist Lazzarini shows Orpheus as he is attacked by the Bacchantes. According to some myths, after Eurydice's death, Orpheus refused to worship any gods other than Apollo. Subsequently, the Maenads that followed Dionysus attacked and killed him. |
