It starts by exploring the definition, history and etiology of the construct. The briefs then discusses the importance of research and presents new research which sheds light on why alexithymia is characterized by poor well-being. The research strongly suggests that people who score high in alexithymia are low in aspects of positive well-being such as happiness, life satisfaction, and positive affect, and high in aspects of negative well-being, such as depression and negative affect. Next, the book examines the correlates of alexithymia and the latter's relation with personality and subjective well-being. Although there has been an increased interest in human flourishing, and even though research in positive psychology has included personality, there has been little application of positive psychology to people with deficits in emotional processing including people with alexithymia. This briefs fills that gap. 588 0 Online resource; title from PDF title page (SpringerLink, viewed August 20, 2013). 650 0 Alexithymia. 650 0 Happiness. 650 0 Quality of life|xResearch. 650 7 HEALTH & FITNESS|xDiseases|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 650 7 MEDICAL|xClinical Medicine.|2bisacsh 650 7 MEDICAL|xDiseases.|2bisacsh 650 7 MEDICAL|xEvidence-Based Medicine.|2bisacsh 650 7 MEDICAL|xInternal Medicine.|2bisacsh 650 7 Droit.|2eclas 650 7 Sciences sociales.|2eclas 650 7 Sciences humaines.|2eclas 650 7 Alexithymia.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00804766 650 7 Happiness.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00951160 650 7 Quality of life|xResearch.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01085029 650 10 Psychology. 650 20 Positive psychology. 650 20 Quality of Life Research. 655 0 Electronic books. 655 7 Electronic books.|2local 700 1 Holder, Mark D.,|eauthor. 830 0 SpringerBriefs in well-being and quality of life research. |x2211-7644 994 C0|bSTJ
