This image features Capricorn as depicted inℓUrania's Mirror, a set of constellation cards published in London in 1825. Officially named Capricornus, the Capricorn constellation is represented in the form of a sea-goat, a creature that is half goat and half fish. Capricorn is considered an introvert sign, an earth sign, and is ruled by the planet Saturn. According to the tropical zodiac, the sun passes through Capricorn between December 22 and January 20. Capricorn has one of the oldest mythological associations, with texts featuring depictions of the stars from around the 21st century BC. In Greek mythology, the constellation is usually identified as Amalthea, the goat that nursed the infant Zeus after his mother saved him from being devoured by his father, Cronos. |
