Summary
This book is a facsimile reprint of the first edition printed in 1640 by Stephen Daye at Cambridge, Mass. "The Bay Psalm Book" was the first book known to be printed in British North America. The book went through several editions and remained in use for well over a century. The book is a psalter, or a volume containing metrical translations of the Book of Psalms. Some of the tunes contained in the Bay Psalm Book continue to be used; in particular, "Old 100th" is a popular setting for the Doxology. Eleven copies of the first edition are known still to survive.
