Performer Maggie is a Vermont-based fiber artist, with deep roots in Oakland, California where she and her mother started their knitting design business. Maggie is interested in stretching the boundaries of what people expect from knitting, so she shies away from "wearables" and instead designs life-size knitted and felted flowers, delicate owl hats for newborns, and sturdy Ugg-style boots. She loves to play with innovation, including unusual stitch techniques, blending fiber with fabric, and shrinking wool knits down into moldable, sculptural shapes. Maggie is the author of two books on felted knits, Felt It and Felt Forward. You can find her patterns at her website maggiepace.com.
Summary If you're new to knitting, baby projects are a great place to start. Not only are they small and quick to knit, but with just a few techniques, you can create a beautiful, cuddly heirloom. In this class, Maggie shows knitters how to make a simple striped baby blanket. She walks new knitters through all of the basics, including casting on, knitting and purling, and binding off. Once you weave in the tails at the very end, your baby blanket is ready for snuggles!
