Summary The bizarre imagery and vague prophecies of the Book of Revelation have led to many differing interpretations over the centuries. The 19th-century Scottish preacher John Cumming made a name for himself with an interest in the End Times that sometimes bordered on obsession. Controversial for his virulent anti-Catholic statements, Cumming believed that the Book of Revelation described events taking place during his lifetime. On several occasions he predicted the date of Jesus' Second Coming, but his forecasts invariably proved incorrect.
