Summary |
Examines the critical issues and processes related to the protection of human subjects who participate in research. The topic is approached with an interest in the empirical research that has been done to study the effects of the practice of research. From the standpoint of metacognition, this is a volume about the research done on the effects of conducting research. The two primary mechanisms that govern the processes of conducting human subjects research are the departmental subject pool on the local level and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) on the institutional level. The goal of this volume is to examine two trends that emerge after review of the literature; namely, that (a) the IRB process has been studied more frequently than the subject pool process, and (b) neither area has had much empirical research conducted covering its operations. |
