In particular, this work is an important corrective to existing cultural studies of disability in Spain that tend to largely ignore intellectual disabilities. Taking on the representation of Down syndrome, autism, alexia/agnosia as well as childhood disability, its chapters combine close readings of a number of Spanish cultural products (films, novels, the comic/graphic novel and the public exhibition) with a broader socio-cultural take on the state of disability in Spain. While researchers and students of cinema will be particularly interested in the book's detailed analyses of the formal aspects of the films, comics, and novels discussed, readers from backgrounds in history, political science and sociology will all be able to appreciate discussions of contemporary legislation, advocacy groups, cultural perceptions, models of social integration and more. 588 0 Print version record. 650 0 People with mental disabilities|zSpain|xSocial conditions. 650 0 People with mental disabilities in literature. 650 0 People with mental disabilities in motion pictures. 650 0 Popular culture|xSocial aspects|zSpain. 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE|xDiscrimination & Race Relations.|2bisacsh 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE|xMinority Studies.|2bisacsh 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE|xPeople with Disabilities.|2bisacsh 650 7 Society and social sciences Society and social sciences. |2bicssc 650 7 Society and culture: general.|2bicssc 650 7 Social issues and processes.|2bicssc 650 7 Disability: social aspects.|2bicssc 650 7 People with mental disabilities in literature.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01057435 650 7 People with mental disabilities in motion pictures.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01057436 650 7 People with mental disabilities|xSocial conditions.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01057426 650 7 Popular culture|xSocial aspects.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01071386 650 12 Intellectual Disability|xpsychology. 650 12 Intellectual Disability|xethnology. 651 2 Spain|xethnology. 650 22 Mentally Ill Persons. 650 22 Medicine in Literature. 650 22 Motion Pictures. 650 22 Cultural Characteristics. 651 7 Spain.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01204303 776 08 |iPrint version:|aFraser, Benjamin.|tDisability studies and Spanish culture.|dLiverpool : Liverpool University Press, 2013|z184631870X|w(OCoLC)809911269 830 0 Representations (Liverpool, England) 914 ocn861200352 994 92|bCKE
