Spanish: ℓFrancisco Asenjo Barbieri (1823-1894) es una de las personalidades más importantes de la historia de la música española. Fue compositor, musicólogo, director y bibliófilo. El núcleo fundamental de los fondos del departamento de música de la Biblioteca Nacional de España lo constituye la biblioteca de Barbieri, quien, por deseo propio, la donó en su testamento a la institución. El legado Barbieri es una de las fuentes más importantes para la historia de la música española. Jugar con fuego se estrenó el 6 de octubre de 1851, en el Teatro del Circo de Madrid, con inmenso éxito en todas las funciones durante diecisiete noches y fue la zarzuela más representada en España desde su estreno hasta 1860. La obra marcó las características del género y el inicio de la zarzuela grande (zarzuela de más de un acto). Se hicieron un buen número de fantasías sobre Jugar con fuego, así como arreglos y transcripciones de la obra completa o de los fragmentos más aplaudidos, fundamentalmente para piano o para voz y piano, pero también para guitarra e incluso para algunas formaciones de cámara. ℓEnglish: ℓFrancisco Asenjo Barbieri (1823-1894) is one of the most important figures in the history of Spanish music. The main nucleus of the National Library of Spain's music department collection is comprised of Barbieri's library, which he donated to the institution in his will. Barbieri's legacy is one of the most important sources on the history of Spanish music. Jugar con fuego (Playing with fire) premiered on 6 October 1851 at the Teatro del Circo in Madrid, with great success in all its performances over seventeen nights, and it was the most represented zarzuela (Spanish operetta) in Spain from its premiere until 1860. This work set the characteristics of the genre and the start of the zarzuela grande (a zarzuela in more than one act). A great number of fantasias were based on Jugar con fuego, as well as arrangements and transcriptions of the complete work or the most appreciated fragments, mostly for piano or voice and piano, but also for guitar and even for certain chamber formations. |
