Summary Baree is the son of a grey wolf and a black dog, born in the Canadian wilderness. He seeks to join a wolf pack, but they see him as a dog and reject him. Soon he learns that humans can be worse than the wolves, and is shot, beaten, and trapped before he learns to take care of himself and finds his purpose in life.
