Summary This technical report presents research undertaken as part of a project entitled "Enhancing the Contributions of Reserve Component Army Special Operations Forces." The project was designed to explore ways to enhance the contributions of U.S Army National Guard (ARNG) Special Forces to ongoing U.S. military operations and to provide recommendations that might lead to 'purpose-driven' ARNG Special Forces: that is, forces organized and employed to take advantage of civilian skills, language proficiency, or other attributes found predominantly within the ARNG Special Forces. This report examines the options for recasting ARNG Special Forces in a 'purposedriven' way.
Funding The research described in this report was sponsored by the United States Army under Contract No. W74V8H-06-C-0001.
