Note A cabin on the former estate of Robert McAlpin (the supposed original of Simon Legree) in Natchitoches parish.
Original document: Book.
Summary The author of this volume recounts a visit to a slave cabin on the former estate of Robert MacAlpin in Natchitoches parish in Louisiana. The author believes MacAlpin is the individual on whom the evil Simon Legree in Uncle Tom's Cabin is based, though there is no definitive historical evidence for any one person being the inspiration for Beecher Stowe's character.
