The Revolution led to a heightened sense of distrust and divided the nation along ideological lines. In the wake of the Terror, many began to express concerns about the atomization of French society. Friendship was regarded as one bond that could restore trust and cohesion. Because trust and cohesion were necessary to post-revolutionary parliamentary life, politicians turned to friends and ideas about friendship to create solidarity. Relying on detailed analyses of politicians' social networks, new tools from the digital humanities, and examinations of behind-the-scenes political transactions, Horowitz makes clear the connection between politics and emotions in the early nineteenth century, and reevaluates the role of women in political life. 546 Text in English. 588 0 Print version record. 650 0 Friendship|xPolitical aspects|zFrance|xHistory|y19th century. 650 0 Political culture|zFrance|xHistory|y19th century. 650 0 Politicians|zFrance|xSocial life and customs|y19th century. 650 0 Politicians|xSocial networks|zFrance|xHistory|y19th century. 650 0 Women|xPolitical activity|zFrance|xHistory|y19th century. 650 7 POLITICAL SCIENCE|xPublic Policy|xCultural Policy. |2bisacsh 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE|xAnthropology|xCultural.|2bisacsh 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE|xPopular Culture.|2bisacsh 650 7 HISTORY|zEurope|zFrance.|2bisacsh 650 7 Frau.|2gnd 650 7 Freundschaft.|2gnd 650 7 Politiker.|2gnd 650 7 Politisches Handeln.|2gnd 650 7 Soziales Netzwerk.|2gnd 651 0 France|xPolitics and government|y19th century. 651 7 France.|2gnd 776 08 |iPrint version:|aHorowitz, Sarah, 1978-|tFriendship and Politics in Post-Revolutionary France|z9780271061924 |w(DLC) 2013027155|w(OCoLC)847941611 914 ocn871258531 994 92|bCKE
