His vivid, intensely hued photographs capture rural and urban India and iconic depictions of Indian culture though a truly cosmopolitan approach that succeeded in blending East and West. This richly illustrated volume studies in depth the full breadth of Singh's work, situating it at the intersection of Western Modernism and traditional South Asian modes of picturing the world. The book showcases 90 of his photographs, including some previously unpublished images, in counterpoint both with the work of his contemporaries and with images of traditional South Asian artworks that inspired his practice. 600 10 Singh, Raghubir|vExhibitions. 600 10 Singh, Raghubir|xCriticism and interpretation. 600 17 Singh, Raghubir.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00085985 648 7 1900-1999|2fast 650 0 Photographers|zIndia|vBiography. 650 0 Photography, Artistic|y20th century|vExhibitions. 650 0 Street photography|zIndia|vExhibitions. 650 0 Modernism (Art)|zIndia|vExhibitions. 650 0 Illustrated books. 650 7 Travel.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01155558 650 7 Street photography.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01134710 650 7 Photography, Artistic.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01061964 650 7 Photographers.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01061605 650 7 Modernism (Art)|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01024442 650 7 Illustrated books.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00967377 651 0 India|xDescription and travel|vPictorial works |vExhibitions. 651 7 India.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01210276 655 7 Biography.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01423686 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01411635 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01424028 655 7 Exhibition, pictorial works.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01424187 655 7 Exhibition catalogs.|2lcgft 700 1 Chaudhuri, Amit,|d1962-|ewriter of added text. 700 1 Jhaveri, Shanay,|ewriter of added text. 700 1 Mitter, Partha,|ewriter of added text. 710 2 Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, N.Y.),|eissuing body, |ehost institution. 710 2 Museum of Fine Arts, Houston,|ehost institution. 710 2 Royal Ontario Museum,|ehost institution. 994 92|bCKE
