Byrd. 520 Islam in the Post-Secular Society: Religion, Secularity and the Antagonism of Recalcitrant Faith critically examines the unique challenges facing Muslims in Europe and North America. From the philosophical perspective of the Frankfurt School's critical theory, this book attempts not only to diagnose the current problems stemming from a marginalization of Islam in the secular West, but also to offer a proposal for a Habermasian discourse between the religious and the secular. By highlighting historical examples of Islamic and western rapprochement, and rejecting the 'clash of civilization' thesis, the author attempts to find a 'common language' between the religious and the secular, which can serve as a vehicle for a future reconciliation. 588 0 Print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed. 650 0 Islam and secularism|zWestern countries. 650 0 Secularism|zWestern countries. 650 0 Frankfurt school of sociology. 650 0 Critical theory. 650 0 Islamic philosophy. 650 7 Critical theory.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00883690 650 7 Frankfurt school of sociology.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00933734 650 7 Islam and secularism.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00979887 650 7 Islamic philosophy.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01730358 650 7 Religion.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01093763 650 7 Secularism.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01110732 650 7 SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture.|2bisacsh 651 0 Western countries|xReligion. 651 7 Western countries.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01302083 776 08 |iPrint version:|aByrd, Dustin.|tIslam in a post-secular society.|dBoston : Brill, 2016|z9789004325357|w(DLC) 2016034844 830 0 Studies in critical social sciences ;|vv. 98. 914 ocn958205553 994 92|bCKE
