Summary |
This is a collection of Beethoven's letters published in 1866. They were published from the collection of Ludwig Nohl, who also edited them. Nohl (1831–1885) was a German music scholar who famously published collections of the letters ofℓBeethoven and Mozart, as well as extensive criticism of other greatℓcomposers, including Richard Wagner. Nohl is most famous, however, as the Beethoven scholar who discovered "Für Elise," Beethoven's piano bagatelle. This collection includes his letters to the Archduke Rudolph of Austria, who took lessons from Beethoven and became his friend. |
