He is widely regarded as 'the father' of Persian poetry, for he was the first major poet to write in new Persian language, following the Arab conquest in the seventh and eighth centuries, which established Islam as the official religion, and made Arabic the predominant literary language in Persian-speaking lands for some two centuries. This book presents Rudaki as the founder of a new poetic aesthetic, which was adopted by subsequent generations of Persian poets. Rudaki is credited with being the first to write in the rubâi form; and many of the images we first encounter in Rudaki's lines have become staples of Persian poetry. 542 1 |fThis work is licensed by Knowledge Unlatched under a Creative Commons license|uhttps://creativecommons.org/ licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode 546 Introduction in English; poems in the original Persian with parallel English translations. 588 0 Print version record. 600 00 Rūdakī,|dactive 10th century|xCriticism and interpretation. 600 00 Rūdakī,|dactive 10th century|vTranslations into English. 600 07 Rūdakī,|dactive 10th century.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01844936 650 0 Quatrains, Persian|xHistory and criticism. 650 0 Quatrains, Persian|vTranslations into English. 650 7 Literature and literary studies.|2bicssc 650 7 Literature: history and criticism.|2bicssc 650 7 Literary studies: poetry and poets.|2bicssc 650 7 LITERARY CRITICISM|xGeneral.|2bisacsh 650 7 TRAVEL|xSpecial Interest|xLiterary.|2bisacsh 650 7 Quatrains, Persian.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01085515 650 7 Poetry.|2thema 650 7 Poetry by individual poets.|2thema 650 7 LITERARY CRITICISM / General.|2bisacsh 655 7 poetry.|2aat 655 7 Poetry.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01423828 655 7 Criticism, interpretation, etc.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01411635 655 7 Translations.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01423791 655 7 Poetry.|2lcgft 776 08 |iPrint version:|aTabatabai, Sassan, 1967-|tFather of Persian verse.|dLeiden : Leiden University Press, 2010 |z9789087280925|w(OCoLC)662406101 830 0 Iranian studies series (Leiden, Netherlands) 914 ocn751395900 947 MARCIVE Processed 2023/05/05 994 92|bCKE
