ℓEnglish: ℓSince the 15th century, and throughout the whole of the 16th, the couplets of Antón, el vaquero de Morana (Antón, the cowboy of Morana) were widely distributed, especially on loose sheets, and references to its verses can be found in many literary works. The anonymous composer of this verse was very aware of a romance that, between sheets, verse and ballad collections, was extremely widely read during the 16th century. The lyrics of this period are nourished by exchanges, loans and copies for a public that was no doubt eager for this type of composition. This kind of humble notebook, in which the xylographic engravings an especially noteworthy, are difficult to find nowadays as time has meant that very few copies, of the many that must have been printed, have survived.
