Found in 1979 in the archives of Piaui, the original letter is archived in Lisbon, Portugal.
Summary Esperanca Garcia, a literate slave, was moved from a Jesuit cotton farm in Brazil to be a cook, away from her husband and some of her children and wrote a letter to the governor asking to be returned to the cotton farm.
