Summary |
This is a story about mountains - not the Andres, Himalayas, or Rockies, but the rugged cliffs and peaks that lie deep in the soft tissue of every artist. These interior domes form slowly, one layer at a time; an accumulation of the people, places, and experiences that make up a painting life. Through daily work, our peaks multiply and form a chain wide enough for others to see from far away. A painter is a mountain range. From a distance we appear as one thing, a unified mass of undulating summits. As you move closer, what appeared uniform is an assembly of four individual mountains, each rising from the Earth like an assassin. They are Delusion, Curiosity, Solitude, and Effort. Being a painter means carefully navigating between these four summits. Without them, we have no bedrock and no foundation. However, if any one peak dwarfs the others, then something is wrong. Consistency is everything. -- Back cover. |
