520 The task of this conference is to develop a set of policy
       recommendations to guide our discipline in the coming
       years as we strive to prepare psychologists to work with
       older people. It is rare for any discipline to have the
       opportunity to draw upon such immensely varied expertise
       as that gathered here this week to formalize such a
       statement. Seven major topics were addressed by about 100
       participants in separate work groups of approximately 13-
       15 persons, made up of psychologists in general,
       geropsychologists, nonpsychology gerontologists, and
       consumers--including agency representatives, students, and
       elderly persons. The group topics included training;
       curriculum; continuing education, retraining, and in-
       service education; recruitment and retention; services and
       settings; psychosocial knowledge base; and
       biopsychological knowledge base. Over a 5-day period, the
       groups discussed their assigned topics with the goal of
       formulating recommendations that would address significant
       aspects of the topics and provide action plans by which
       the recommendations could be realized. (PsycINFO Database
