Poet Lucia Perillo, who once worked as a park ranger and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her thirties, confronts the ironies of going from an outdoors person to someone who can no longer walk in this memoir. Biography |
Poet Lucia Perillo was a park ranger in the Cascade Mountains before multiple sclerosis took its toll on her body, and wilderness and nature are frequent themes in her writing. She was also a teacher, and taught at Saint Martin's College [now Saint Martin's University], Southern Illinois University, Syracuse University, and Warren Wilson. She now lives in Olympia, Washington. Her writing has garnered the Kate Tufts Award, the Kingsley Tufts Award, the Norma Farber Award, a Washington Book Award plus fellowships from the PEN/Revson Foundation and the prestigious MacArthur Foundation. To date, Perillo has published six books of poetry, a memoir, and a collection of short stories. |
