If scientific and technical developments arrived in Spain with some delay compared to other countries, Natural Sciences were vastly developed in Spain along the 19th century, partly driven by the great scientific expeditions of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. One of them took Hipólito Ruiz and José Pavón to Peru and Chile go for more than ten years, and this book was the result of their studies. It contains descriptions of 758 plant species, 598 of which are accompanied by drawings. The Flora Peruviana is one of the most important and significant scientific results from the exploring activities and research in Latin America, promoted by King Carlos III and continued by Carlos IV.ℓ
