What is a map? What is a globe? And what are the differences? Maps & Globes teaches students to understand and identify the different parts of maps and globes from lines of latitude and longitude, to hemispheres and poles. Students will also learn the significance of location. By describing a globe as a model of the Earth, and then by comparing a globe to a flat world map, students will gain insight into how flat maps distort size, shape and distance between places on Earth. Students will explore the advantages and disadvantages of maps and globes and learn strategies for determining how to decide which one to use. A teacher's guide is included and available online.
