Summary |
In 1865, Mark Twain visited the scrappy gold miners working the northern California foothills. He hears a tale in a tavern one night, then writes the story that launches his career: "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." The story inspires the Jumping Frog Jubilee now held every year in Calaveras County. Today, the frog jump is dominated by family-run teams from central California to Oregon. A grizzled veteran still holds the World Record after two decades. A precision-run team boasts several champions but has yet to claim a World Record. The hometown favorites to continue their quest to be the first local winners in a half century. |
