She advances and defends two principal claims: that Kant's philosophy of Right endorses the role of metaphysics in political thinking, in contrast to its generally hostile reception in the field today, and that his account of political obligation is cosmopolitan in its inception, assigning priority to the global rather than the domestic context. She shows how Kant's metaphysics of freedom as a shared idea of practical reason underlies the cosmopolitan scope of his theory of justice, and she concludes that despite the revival of 'Kantianism' in contemporary thinking, his account of justice is in many respects very different from dominant approaches in contemporary liberal theory. Her study will be of interest to political philosophers, political theorists and historians of ideas."--Jacket. 588 0 Print version record. 600 10 Kant, Immanuel,|d1724-1804. 600 17 Kant, Immanuel,|d1724-1804.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00031763 600 17 Kant, Immanuel.|2swd 650 0 Political science|xPhilosophy. 650 0 Political science. 650 7 PHILOSOPHY|xPolitical.|2bisacsh 650 7 Political science.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01069781 650 7 Political science|xPhilosophy.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01069819 650 7 Filosofia moderna|zAlemanha.|2larpcal 650 7 Filosofia polĂtica.|2larpcal 650 07 Politische Philosophie.|2swd 650 17 Politieke filosofie.|2gtt 776 08 |iPrint version:|aFlikschuh, Katrin.|tKant and modern political philosophy.|dCambridge ; New York : Cambridge University Press, 2000|z0521662370|w(DLC) 99088503 |w(OCoLC)42976878 914 ocm51202747 994 93|bGTK
