Summary |
"Joseph Loomis, the founder of the Loomis family in America, was born in Braintree, a large town in Essex, England, about 1590. He was a woolen draper in this busy town, not far from London. As his name suggests, his family was in the cloth trade in the area for many generations...[his] ancestry can be traced back to Thomas Lummyus [Lummys, Lomys] of Thaxted, Essex, who died in 1551...[later descendants] in the seventh generation became the means for the preservation of the Loomis Homestead...five siblings, James Chaffee Loomis, Osbert Loomis, Hezekiah Loomis, John Mason Loomis, and Abigail Loomis Hayden...prosperous as they were, the five siblings reached the end of their lives not having any children who reached maturity...they decided they woul invest their heritage...by bequeathing their wealth to the education of children in perpetuity...Thus was born the Loomis Institute."--pages 6,7. |
