520 This book provides an annotated bibliography of over 500
books that are aimed at students in the adolescent age
group. Each book has been selected because it has
characters who fit into an expanded definition of
multiculturalism which incorporates and goes beyond multi-
ethnicity to include non-traditional families, living with
mental or physical illness, homosexuality, living with
drug or alcohol abuse, or living with physical abuse. Part
One provides practical ways to use the books in the
classrooms, counseling groups, and parent/child book
discussion groups. Literary Circles and possible student
responses to the books are described in depth. A broad
variety of other curricular uses are also presented. The
core of the book is the annotated bibliography, found in
Part Two. Part Three includes literary circle topics and
book lists, cross-curricular topics and books lists, the
science fiction/fantasy book list, an author index and a
culture index. The user-friendly design of this book
allows anyone working with young adults quick access to
literature that will enlighten, support, promote
understanding, and open the doors of diversity.
