Summary |
Caricature as an expression of political and social satire was popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, as it is today. Several names are synonymous with British humorists from the time of the Regency, including James Gillray, Thomas Rowlandson and later, George Cruikshank. In fact, in 1820, Cruikshank was paid a royal bribe ofℓ£100 for a pledge "not to caricature His Majesty (George IV) in any immoral situation." |
