"Clinical psychology is making rapid headway. Apparently a book on this subject written expressly for the school teacher would be timely and useful. The primary object of this book is to give the teacher a working basis by means of which he or she may be able to recognize an atypical child in the classroom and to know how best to handle the situation. In order that this volume may be of practical value as a textbook, a number of chapters have been added in which subjects are discussed for purposes of completeness. Pro and con opinions, and detailed references have been purposely avoided as far as possible. The intent has been to be as concise and practical as is consistent with scientific accuracy. It must be understood that the field has not been covered from every side and it is hoped that the reader will supplement these pages by collateral reading.
