Summary |
Fina Mendoza's Papa works in the U.S. Capitol as a congressman. She likes to solve mysteries in the classroom but everything changed on January 6th, 2021. While Papa was voting to certify the presidential election, a bunch of angry people broke into the Capitol. They believed that someone had stolen the election and were really, really mad. Fina as really, really scared as her Papa was in the building along with parents of a lot of her classmates. Would the angry people hurt them? Why did this happen? Would it happen again? The next day, the talk about in class, and compare it to when John Adams lost the election to Thomas Jefferson and what happened then. They learn how important it is to be a gracious winner and how important it is to not be a sore loser in sports, class competetions, and elections. This novella is an important lesson on the importance of elections to our democracy and the value of all the politicians to put their allegiance to country above political parties and help children understand this perilous event in our current history. |
