Before Indiana Jones made the hunt for the lost Ark famous, 19th century archeologists used advances in technology and technique to search for (and find) many Egyptian antiquities of great value. This 1851 book takes into account many of those finds and attempts to connect them to the Biblical accounts of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The author provides a detailed commentary on the Egyptian portions of the books of Genesis and Exodus. Actual artifacts and historical documents are used to underscore and illuminate the Biblical passages, and an additional chapter finds parallels and insight for a collection of miscellaneous passages.
