Summary The kitchen: Based on the Vertigo comic book series from DC Entertainment, the mobster husbands of three 1978 Hell's Kitchen housewives are sent to prison by the FBI. Left with little but an ax to grind, the ladies take the Irish mafia's matters into their own hands, proving surprisingly adept at everything from running the rackets to taking out the competition, literally.
American gangster: Based on a true story, American Gangster is the story of two men: Frank Lucas, former driver, bouncer, and collector for Bumpy Johnson, the so-called Robin Hood of Harlem; and Richie Roberts, night-school lawyer, detective, and honest cop. Frank is importing heroin direct from Bangkok--by-passing the Italian and Sicilian mafia--undercutting their prices, delivering superior product, and making a fortune. Richie, loathed by cops on the take for turning in a million bucks in unmarked bills found in a suspects car, is heading a newly formed Federal investigation force for narcotics, tasked with finding and arresting North American drug kingpins. These two men are destined to meet, a meeting that will change their lives.
Black mass: In 1970s South Boston, FBI agent John Connolly persuades Irish mobster Jimmy Bulger to collaborate with the FBI in order to eliminate their common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement while consolidating his power and becoming one of the most ruthless and dangerous gangsters in Boston history.
The town: Doug MacRay is leader of a Boston bank robber gang but not cut from the same cloth as his fellow thieves. When Doug falls into a passionate romance with the bank manager briefly taken hostage in their last heist, he wants out of this life and out of the town. As the Feds close in and the crew questions his loyalty, he has one of two choices: betray his friends or lose the woman he loves.
Eastern promises: Anna, a midwife at a North London hospital, finds the diary of a Russian teenager who dies giving birth to a baby, and resolves to find the young girls' relatives in the hopes of providing the orphaned child with a loving family. As Anna follows the clues the diary provides, she finds evidence of a local Russian mob's criminal activities, and meets Nikolai, a formidable mob enforcer. Anna and Nikolai find themselves growing close as the Russian mobsters behind the girl's death become aware of Anna's discoveries regarding their crimes.
