The first half of the book is writtenℓby Sir Topham and is his account of a patient who, in a mesmeric state, had his leg amputated. The second half, by Mr. Squire does the same, but from a medical perspective, recounting the man's ailments, the methods used and the outcome of the surgery.ℓ
