Summary This volume presents the definitive text of Tom Jones, that of the fourth edition (1749, dated 1750), the last published in Fielding's lifetime. In this edition, Fielding added more than a thousand changes to the already carefully revised third edition and restored to their original version the "Man of the Hill" chapters, which had been abridged in the third edition. The editor has written a Textual Appendix especially for this volume which presents the cut passages to give the reader an inside look at Fielding's revision.
