Summary The purpose of this study was to examine the leadership styles of inpatient psychiatric nursing supervisors and to assess the job satisfaction of their nursing staff. The design of this study was descriptive. The conceptual framework was based on Bass's (1985) transformational leadership theory. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) measured leadership styles, and the Index of Work Satisfaction (IWS) measure nursing job satisfaction.
