Summary This study examined the nature of violence within an inpatient psychiatric setting, and focused primarily on the precursors to these violent incidents. The findings ervealed that patient violence was precipitated by perceived inconsistent limit setting, and ambiguous communication by staff and substantiated Morrison's violence predictive model.
