Summary The purpose of this critical study is to highlight the oppressive realities, which exist in nurses' experiences, and bring them into consciousness. It also seeks to understand how oppression affects nurses, and how they cope with it, with the intent of overcoming the oppressive status quo. It uses the critical theory of Karl Marx, the Frankfurt School and Paulo Freire to understand the development and effects of oppression in society.
