Summary |
In difficult times of struggle for emancipation, they fought for their rights to education, art, work and independence. Zofia Stryjeńska - "the princess of Polish painting" - studied in Munich disguised as a boy. Helena Rubinstein - the empress of beauty - preferred to treat herself to a portrait with a famous painter instead of a rejuvenating treatment. Zofia, Maria and Eliza Pareński entered Polish literature and art as teenagers: Stanisław Wyspiański immortalized them on the pages of The Wedding and on Art Nouveau pastel portraits. Olga Boznańska found freedom in painting. Anna Bilińska set herself a goal in art: to be as good as a man, and surpassed many of her colleagues. Teresa Roszkowska, an outstanding scenographer, tanned in ebony and stylized as an exotic beauty, was the leader during open-air painting sessions in Kazimierz Dolny. Stories about Polish painters, muses and models who created world-class works and inspired the most outstanding artists. Talented and feisty, sensitive and introverted, each different, each with a captivating story. |
